Academy Award winners Meryl Streep and Jeff Bridges are closing deals to star in what will surely be an awards season contender, “Great Hope Springs.”
Written by television writer Vanessa Taylor (“Everwoord,” “Alias”) the film follows a couple who attend an intense counseling session over a weekend in order to decide the fate of their marriage. According to Production Weekly, the couple is said to be “middle-aged,” but we’re guessing the roles have been re-written slightly to match the 61 year old Streep and Bridges. It’s also been reported that Philip Seymour Hoffman was in line to play Dr. Field but that scheduling issues — most likely with Paul Thomas Anderson’s untitled religious film and a directing gig at the Sydney Theater Company starting in October — will likely find the role going to someone else.
No word on when this might be getting in front of cameras, but with the cast firming up it should be soon. Jessie Nelson (“I Am Sam,” “Corrina, Corrina”) is set to direct.
ooh. sounds good!
Surely they'll change that awful title. Wasn't there a Hope Springs movie about ten years ago? I'm sure the director of "I Am Sam" will keep this grounded and not at all emotionally manipulative.
It's Complicated 2. I hope there is another pot smoking Meryl scene. Seem inevitable if she's married to the Dude.
How is this ''sure to be an awards contender''? It sound like your typical generic fare to me.
Nothing is "generic fare" when the project includes this actor and actress.
