Got a Tip?

Good Times, Bad Times: Watch The First Trailer For David O. Russell’s ‘American Hustle’

null

Okay, we’ve seen the hair and the cleavage, and had a decent little chuckle and smirk, but what does the final shape of David O. Russell‘s “American Hustle” actually look like? Well, a trailer has now arrived and this looks like an assured, entertaining piece of pop culture time travel.

Probably paying a pretty little penny to use Led Zeppelin‘s “Good Times, Bad Times,” the first spot offers little in the way of dialogue (are we seeing a new trend following Ben Stiller‘s The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty” promo?) but gives a great sense of the setting. Yep, there’s a lot glitz, glam, skin and a bit of mischievousness going on here, with the lead quintet — Christian Bale, Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, Jeremy Renner and Amy Adams — looking like they’re having a ball.

As you know, the film is based on/inspired by the true story of the ABSCAM operation in which a financial con artist (Bale) and his mistress/partner in crime (Adams) who are forced to work with an out of control federal agent (Cooper) to turn the tables on other con artists, mobsters and politicians. The supporting cast is ace — Louis C.K., Jennifer Lawrence, Alessandro Nivola, Elisabeth Rohm, Dawn Olivieri, Jack Huston, Michael Pena and Robert De Niro — and the December 25th release date can’t come soon enough. 1. Cirkusflk you aren't in a minorty I found this disappointing as well, too much like Casino or Goodfellas, been there done that. I'll stick with the originals. But it is a preliminary teaser I'll wait for a trailer with dialogue and more story to it before deciding to see it or not.

  2. There's someone who won't be going to the premiere: Marie Weinberg. They plan on destroying her memory in order to keep Weinberg likable, and he also happens to be involved in this. Go to the video clips online to see what really happened.

  3. I must be in the minority here but I didn't think much of this trailer. The opening dialogue didn't make much sense to me and all the images strewn together after that don't mean shit if you aren't at least told what the film is about. I found the one minute trailer for The Counseler much more inspired. Also, the Lep Zep song was already used in The Fighter so it appears Russell is already ripping himself off. Might as well used How You Like Me Now.

  4. Looks pretty solid, Russell has another award worthy juggernaut, expect praise from the commercial scene. Christian Bale does look phenomenal, good enough for an Academy nom. to say the least.
