“X-Men: First Class” has grossed $132 million since its June 3rd release, so why wouldn’t 20th Century Fox start leaking details about the eventual Blu-ray/DVD release? According to Bleeding Cool, via Cinema Blend, the “First Class” Blu-ray and DVD will include 13 deleted scenes which is enough to make the front of any fanboy’s pants tighten. That’s the good news. The bad news is the scenes will total less than 14 minutes of additional footage. Yes, that is the sound of wind being taken out of your sails.
Director Matthew Vaughn (“Kick-Ass“) exceeded most fans’ expectations of what the mutant origin story could be. Though the film had its flaws, overall it was a very good piece of pop filmmaking and was more often entertaining than not. The deleted scenes are rumored to focus on CIA agent Moira Taggart (Rose Byrne) and her relationship with Charles Xavier (James McAvoy), which helps to explain why the character seemed underwritten and underused, at least. Byrne did a decent job and all, but most fans would probably rather see more of the brilliant Michael Fassbender as Erik Lehnsherr a.k.a. Magneto with his dark past and obsession with revenge.
Vaughn and executive producer Bryan Singer (who directed the first “X-Men” movie) have already hinted about a “First Class” sequel being set during the struggle for civil rights in the 1960s, and may even include the assassination of JFK and the Vietnam War. Singer has said that he doesn’t want the franchise to be a “history lesson” of the 20th century, but with the re-telling of the Cuban Missile Crisis in “First Class,” why not let Charles Xavier try to prevent the murder of Martin Luther King, Jr. or make the real identity of Deep Throat be Hank McCoy a.k.a Beast? Just a few thoughts to kick around. In the meantime, “X-Men First Class” is still in theaters and, while there’s no date for the DVD/Blu-Ray yet, we’d expect it around October or November.
\”14 minutes of Kevin Bacon speaking in other languages\” — yeah, that would be pretty rad
I\’d prefer to see more of the other young Mutants.
I have no interest in Young Xavier & Raven because the kid actors who played them were TERRIBLE. Cute but terrible.
That or just 14 minutes of Kevin Bacon speaking in other languages.
I\’d rather see more of young Charles Xavier and Raven, to be honest. Magneto was fantastic, but we got quite a lot of him and the living arrangement for young Raven is still a mystery to me.
Did Xavier take her with him to Great Britain? And what on earth did young Charles did to his parents?
