Got a Tip?

Good Grief: Twilight Fan Fiction ‘Beautiful Bastard’ To Become A Movie From The Producer Behind ‘Resident Evil’

nullSorry America, you asked for this. With millions of people unleashing their inner sexual fantasies thanks to the runaway success of "Fifty Shades Of Grey," it seems that if you're a writer inspired by the tween romance of Edward and Bella in the "Twilight" franchise, you're already halfway to a movie deal. And indeed, another author, who has turned her naughty fantasies into something that people are actual reading for real, has now inked a deal to bring that creation to life.

Constantin Film has snapped up the rights to "Beautiful Bastard," which hits bookstores on Tuesday, but already has been a digital phenomenon. Penned by Nobel Prize laureate Christina Hobbs, the story follows an MBA student who begins an affair with media mogul boss at the company where she interns. So yes, this is basically the exact same plot as "Fifty Shades Of Grey." Essentially, there's some gender/power/class dynamics at play, but let's be honest, no one cares about the thematic undercurrent, they just want hawt sexx

And to help make that happen is Jeremy Bolt, the producer with an estimable list of credits that include some "Resident Evil" movies, "Death Race," "Pandorum," "The Hole" and…well, you get the idea. We're not sure why Hollywood suddenly thinks they can do edgy sex well, when historically, they've generally embarrassed themselves ("Body Of Evidence," "Color Of Night," etc). But hey, good luck to them. The rest of the world has the internet for their wanking needs. [THR]

  1. For someone so critical about someone's work, what gives you the right? All I can find out about you is that you're from Canada and some film critic. Where did you graduate? What kind of experience do you have in the book writing business? What are your credentials?

It is a flaw of this site to have someone participate as a writer and they do not display their experience to show why anyone should even give them the time of day. What is his expertise in the book world to critique these writers writing.

If this is an "opinion piece" then it needs to state it as an "opinion piece from a guest writer.".

The comments below show that this guy has no idea what he's talking about.

  2. Ohhhhh, I see. Everyone who writes a book HAS TO BE a Nobel Prize laureate. Dangit. The longer you live, the more you learn. So JK Rowling, Suzanne Collins, J.R.R. Tolkein are Nobel Prize laureates? Must have missed their names on the wiki…http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nobel_laureates_by_country

  3. That's right. This was the original Twilight fanfic. Master of the Universe/50 Shades is afterward. So the first is being made into a movie sort of like The Hobbit. The Hobbit was the original which has the same type of plots like Lord of the Rings. Darn, there's that plot problem again. Two different books, same plot.

Maybe Playlist should do some research before writing about things they don't even know what their writing about.

  4. So you are saying that any film made with the exact same plot is what? I saw a twitter exchange where this woman told you all off and made your ' gender/power/class dynamics' statement look stupid. How did she put it? Every comicbook movie has the 'good guy/bad guy/bad buy wreaks havoc/good guy saves the day. Then she said that The Avengers and Batman made a billion using that same plot line over and over again.

So everything you just wrote was just blown out of the water. LMAO!

I'll take it even further: Take for example every Diehard and Lethal Weapon film of the like you have a hero who is an underdog at times, who uses skill and wit to get out of situations along with a bad guy and the underdog heroes win every time.

Oh how about EVERY HARRY POTTER BOOK AND FILM? They all have the same plot. Harry gets into it with his aunt and uncle, goes to school, learn some kind of magic that will save the day at the end, have a Snape encounter of some type, dark arts teacher gets in some type of trouble, Harry, Hermione and Ron save the day. That same plot went throughout 7 books and 8 movies. No one said one thing.

Basically, you all are a bunch of Twilight haters which is the issue here. You hate Twilight and anything connected to it directly or indirectly be it the actors or any YA novel turned into a film. You hate it because of Twilight. You all really need help. You look foolish talking about using the same plots. This is Hollywood you know.

Twilight has nothing to do with any of these movies. These plots are a far cry from anything seen in Twilight. And also, E L James is in the entertainment business and her husband is a screenwriter and director. James understands scripts and how movies are made believe it or not. So Twilight may have been an inspiration but 50 shades of Grey stands on it own just like this Beautiful Bastard will.

Maybe you all are just a bunch of misogynists because "using the same plot" just doesn't make sense.

  5. For the record – The Office was published – and pulled – way before Master of the Universe, uh, I mean, 50 Shades, was written. This is THE original TwiPorn. I wish Lauren and Christina every bit of success with there collaboration!
