Got a Tip?

‘Gone Girl’ Author Gillian Flynn Penning First Season Of David Fincher’s HBO Show ‘Utopia’

nullWith "Gone Girl" opening at number one at the box office this weekend, and thus making a huge contribution to best October weekend in box office history, the next move for David Fincher is on the small screen. While the filmmaker directed only the first two episodes of Netflix‘s "House of Cards," he will direct the entire first season of HBO‘s "Utopia," a gig that will take up pretty much all of 2015. And he’s going to be getting some help from the writer who played the most crucial role in his most recent film becoming such a critical and popular success.

"Gone Girl" author and screenwriter Gillian Flynn, who is also co-producing "Utopia," will write scripts for the full first season of the show. "’I don’t want a big writers room. I want a voice’" Fincher told Flynn, which she related to Buzzfeed. However, this news may not please Flynn fans who want another book, as she reveals "Utopia" will keep her away from writing what she describes is “a big, folkloric tale of American murder.”

“I was all set to start it. I was really excited,” Flynn said.. “I’d pretty much signed off on Gone Girl, and I got the message from David —it was a text— ‘hey, got this TV thing. It’ll take up the next year of your life. Are you in?’ I was like, ‘Of course I’m in. You don’t even have to tell me what it is. I’m in.’ ”

Lots to look forward to, but until then, here’s a Film 4 special about "Gone Girl" with Flynn, Fincher, Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike and Neil Patrick Harris. And after that, check out another ten-minute talk about "Gone Girl" with Pike.

  1. I\’ve read several reviews about GONE GIRL and none of them discuss the gross improbabilities in its plot, which, for me, sink the movie. My friends and I have had a lot of fun pointing out all of these missteps, too many, in fact, to be listed here in this small comment section. Critics have been so busy trying to be insightful and profound about GONE GIRL that they\’ve failed to see or acknowledge what a clumsy movie it is.

  2. It\’s kind of a waste of time for Fincher as the Chan4 series is already a clut classic that do not need to be remade for an american audience. It\’s not like the original series was in swedish, it\’s bloody english!
