So the WGA (Writers Guild of America) refused to negotiate with the company that produced the Golden Globes – Dick Clark Productions. An interim deal would have the production company to produce the Globes without the threat of picketing and thereby scaring off actors from showing up.
Well, that didn’t happen and so now SAG (the Screen Actors Guild) has promised that none of its members will attend the Golden Globe ceremony. So without actors showing up, there’s not much reason to have a show, right?
But as of Friday, NBC still plans on airing the show next Sunday January 13. Good luck though, wait for announcement or more updates this week, but right now it’s looking bleaker than a blocked out sun. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association says they hope to have this resolved on Monday (January 7), but we’ll see. There’s also talk that they’ll try and postpone the Globes until sometime later in the month before the Oscar nominations are announced on January 22, but that still doesn’t give them a lot of time.
But there’s the serious chance that the whole broadcast will be called off in its entirety. No self-congratulatory wankfest. Would be a pity, no?
*Update*: Nikki Finke is reporting that the Globes are done like dinner and have been cancelled. Who’s knows if it’s legit, but it shouldn’t surprise anyone if it is.
