It was just yesterday we were talking about Joe Wright's "Anna Karenina," wondering if it would be hitting the Venice Film Festival in advance of its fall release, and lo and behold, it seems the marketing campaign for the movie is beginning to roll out.
The first stagey poster and trailer for the movie that by the looks of it, this is going to be a dazzling affair. Wright has taken the unusual step of shooting the majority of his Russian epic, based on Leo Tolstoy's famed novel, on and around a single location, a run-down theater built from scratch at Shepperton Studios outside London. The various images from the film have already pointed toward something that will be a massive treat for the eyes, and this is a further tease at Wright's grand plans for the film which look to immerse the viewer in the story in a wholly unique way.
Starring Keira Knightley, Jude Law, Aaron Johnson, Kelly Macdonald, Olivia Williams, Ruth Wilson and Holliday Grainger,"Anna Karenina" opens in the U.K. on September 7th and in the U.S. on November 9th. Check out the full poster below. [Glamour/MSN]
leave it to hollywood to completely leave out the most interesting and meaningful parts of the book (Levin's stuff). I can't really see there being a whole half of the movie unrepresented in the trailer…if it's true then theyve showed us nearly all the Anna parts already. And Kiera is not Russian!
looks amazing, but the set pieces look highly crowded.
This looks gorgeous. As a previous poster said, though, Levin is my favorite character with the most interesting arc, and half the book is about him, but he barely appears in the trailer at all. I suppose this is understandable, both because it's a trailer trying to sell the main plot and because Levin and Anna barely intersect in the book anyway, much easier to do in a novel than a film–but still, as I said, I find his arc more interesting than the adultery plot. Still looking forward to it.
Wonder how come with the same content articles, The Playlist always gets loads of comments while the one on Indiewire directly gets nothing. Good to see nowadays some talented European directors make motion pictures based upon literature, to seriously show in this superficial entertainment world, of courese with entertaining elements.
Absolutely stunning. Hope Knightley and Wright are going to be 3 for 3.
oh my what a surprise, kevin jagernauth is nicey nicey to the white films and film makers, but always has something negative to say about black films and black film makers. what a pathetic racist joke
I don't see the point of adapting Anna Karenin. It's not like you can improve on it. It's already a perfect book and even Kubrick couldn't of made a film half as good as the novel.
Ohhhhh snap, looks great!
Looks so beautiful! Now I'm even more excited by the trailer. My grandmother used to read Anna Karenina to me growing up. Not very kid approciate but it was her favorite. I reread it as an adult and it means a lot to me, many people I know find it dull but I find it moving. I think this looks wonderful. I am not a huge fan of Keira even though I do like her and I think she looks marvelous here.
wish it wasn't Kiera Knightly – she is consistently fake
What is Aaron Johnson going for here? Physically, he looks awkward and unattractive. Acting wise, he seems lifeless.
The rest looks good though. Gorgeous visuals and Law looks strong.
This and Gatsby in the same year! Wonder which will be better.
I wish this trailer wasn't all focused on the Anna Karenina love triangle, half of the book is about Levin… but I guess that's not the path they're taking. It does look pretty.
MSN has the worst servers. like they were built in early 90s. Almost impossible to watch videos on MSN without hating it. If I held the rights to any trailer, I would never let MSN to have it.

Dumb tag line. That isn't what Anna Karenina is about.
I'd have liked the film's poster more had Holliday Grainger's and Alexandra Roach's names been on it. As they aren't included in the poster's typography, I am pinning my hopes on the poster for 'Great Expectations' having Miss Grainger's name in big letters near the top of it.
Excited! Can't wait!!! 🙂
