The murder mystery is a subgenre that has experienced a significant renaissance in the last few years. And much of that is due to writer/director Rian Johnson who seemingly singlehandedly revitalized the genre with his commercial and critical smash hit “Knives Out” in 2019. The whodunnit allows filmmakers to gather a large cast with exuberant sets and a mystery to be solved at its core. This year alone, studios released “See How They Run” and “Death on the Nile” and proved to audiences how popular the genre had become again after seemingly losing steam in the 1980s.

“Knives Out” was boosted with wonderful performances, a sharply written script, and a clever mystery to be explored while having a theme of classism provide a unique narrative. After fans wondered what Johnson would do next— “Star Wars” or what—he eventually reteamed with Daniel Craig and assembled another large ensemble cast of A-list stars with an even bigger destination as the film’s backdrop. And thus, audiences will soon have “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery,” releasing for only one in theaters starting on November 23, 2022, and arriving on Netflix soon thereafter in December—a stacked month for the streamer, given that this film and Noah Baumbach’s highly anticipated “White Noise” premiere a mere few weeks from each other.
The film will be the first-ever Netflix film to be shown across all three major U.S. theatrical chains: AMC, Regal, and Cinemark (amongst others) and will play in approximately 600 theaters in the U.S. with additional theaters internationally, including Canada, the U.K., Ireland, Italy, Germany, Spain, Israel, Australia, and New Zealand. Tickets are available in the U.S. now at glassonionmovie.com.
‘Glass Onion’ film stars Dave Bautista, Kathryn Hahn, Jessica Henwick, Edward Norton, Leslie Odom Jr, Janelle Monáe, and Kate Hudson as a group of friends invited to a tech millionaire’s private getaway island only for someone to turn up dead.
