Got a Tip?

‘Ghostbusters 3’ Still Moving Ahead Following Death Of Harold Ramis

Ghostbusters 2

It’s barely been 24 hours since Harold Ramis sadly passed away, but Hollywood business doesn’t wait, and that means Sony is trying to figure out what to do with their forever-developing “Ghostbusters 3.” The project (which has been haunted by Dan Aykroyd continually talking about the movies) is still being worked on, but seems a long way away from anything resembling a green light. And with Ramis passing, some tweaks will obviously have to be made.

THR reports that director Ivan Reitman will soon be meeting with Sony suits to talk about how to keep the movie moving forward. But apparently it won’t be too much of a problem; while Ramis wrote the first two movies, Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky were tasked with the third installment. Ramis was said to be only tangentially involved. The completed script apparently features cameos from the original Ghostbusters, with the focus of the story being a new team taking on the supernatural job.

It would be nice if Ramis’ death made everyone stop and assess if this is even a good idea, but maybe that’s hoping for too much. But deals with the original Ghostbusters—each of whom have rights to the property and future profits—still need to be made, so this could still be a long time coming.

  1. There honestly shouldn't be any new ones. I'm a young fan and I feel sad that I will soon be embarrassed to like these movies because they will inevitably be associated with whatever gb3 is. I think when Ramis died, so did the ghostbusters. I think a new movie will seem kind of like a cheap move on everyone involved and very disrespectful to Ramis. You do it with the original writers or not at all. The 'new team' sounds horrifying. It is bad enough that the movie will have this stupid new aged comedy style, but it will have a bunch of slutty female protagonists too … Yuck. I am a woman and feel that so many movies are ruined with these feminists who feel like there should be a main female character in every movie. So many of them are unnecessary and are obviously thee for one reason only…. Sure not every women in the cinema i like this, but most are, and its a poor reflection of real life women. What was appealing about the original was that they were 3 comedy legends at the time whose characters were kind of an extension of what life was like in the 80s in new york at that time. That can never be recaptured again. I think he idea of the new team is pure idiocy and though i have been a HUGE fan for a while now I will not see this movie in theatres and will from now on if the movie is made, keep my love for the originals on the down low.

  2. first off i just want to publicly say F all you haters GB3 is not a dumb idea its a passing of torch to a new generation of ghostbusting fans i for one who is 28 cant stand the rest of the older fans you all are stubborn asshole pricks.

they are working hard on getting the right actors and actresses (theirs gonna be a female leading this time) the originals dont even need to be in the reboot sony already said their rebooting the hole thing with small cameos from the originals we all knew ramis was the oldest of the 4 and basically wasnt gonna be in much at all he was like 70 with the others late 50's to early 60's.

what were gonna get is murrey hudson and probably aykroyd being in alot of getting ready scenes at the firehouse thats it the originals wont be doing anything else then help get the new team ready they aint putting on the suits with protons pack im one that cant wait to see the new team and more of Aykroyd and hudson then the guy that almost brought down the entire idea being bill dragging feet murrey.

its nice to see him finally on board to shut all you dumb asses up that want him in that badly but i for one is gonna want bills character to die at the end i mean i am a fan of bill's work but he dragged his feet way way too long.

no disrespect to late harold ramis but it took to the point of ramis to die to get him on board i actually dont want bill in now the movie will do better without a man that doesnt want to be there. ether way i cant wait for the GhostBusters reboot im glad their continuing it cause ramis would want them to and all you haters can go suck a dick because a new ghostbusters movie is a good idea GET USE TO IT ALREADY DAMN!!

  3. To WHATS Comment I Agree with you 100%!!! That's why Sony is still making a Ghostbusters 3!!! Harold Will be Smiling from Heaven to see GB3 getting made and to see the Fans see the movie because I'll be seeing it when it comes out to Theaters! That's why Bill Murray is back in to Tribute GB3 to Harold and the Fans Will Too and the rest of the cast like Annie,Rick,Sigourney should do the same along with Ernie because he isn't sure. Dan is in along with Bill! No Doubt that the rest of the cast will be in GB3 because the pain that we're all going through still hurts and there hurting too because of Harold's Death!

  4. Some of you Guys are AHoles!!! Listen Harold would want Sony and his GB Pals to still make a Ghostbusters 3 after Harold's Death! That is to Tribute Harold if he wasn't ill and Harold would be Smiling from Heaven to see GB3 getting made and to see the Fans see the movie in Theaters! Even Bill Murray is back to Tribute his Pal Harold because they talked about the fewed they had and they both forgave eachother. That's why Bill's in! Bill's brother told Bill to see Harold because he was very ill and about to die and they talked before Harold died! All of the GB Cast should be in GB3 so that they can Tribute GB3 to Harold! If they can find somebody to play Egon's lost son for GB3 Awesome because his son can do his dad's work such as working on the Protonpacks Ghost Traps Etc! I'll be in line to see GB3 and Harold would Love that from the Fans!

  5. it wood be good fi they use Phill Lewis as egon it wood be good to see hem in ghostbusters3 he did good the sweat life ofZack and Cody and the sweat life on deck he is funny actor

  6. this is true acts of defiance that Dan Aykroyd is showing
who would have thought that any ordinary friend will
never carry on any project without their friend in need
and it shows on how really they were close what will
take to get through into Aykroyd's brain and tell him to give
up but like with everything else remains defiant to the end
and typical some of these Canadians that never cared about
friendship and respect apart from money he is stubborn as an mule
by refusing to give in but good luck to say fans will not support Ghostbusters 3
it will be a stonking epic fail .

  7. With the passing of a legend, have people forgotten Harold Ramis' body of work? Sure, he did Ghostbusters. But lets not forget Animal House, SCTV, Stripes, National Lampoons Vacation, Back to School, Caddyshack, Groundhogs Day….the list goes on. He was more than just Egon…he was an icon. Arguably the best to ever come out of Chicago ( RIP John Hughes). He scripted many classics along with helping jumpstart the careers of numerous actors. Listen to Ernie Hudson and SCRAP Ghostbusters 3. No need to "pass the baton"…Sony should show respect. Harold Ramis was Ghostbusters. Wouldn't be the same without him.

  8. Calm Down!!! If Harold didn't have an illness he would still be here!!! Harold would want Sony and his GB Pals ato make a GB3 and so does the Fans!!! Sony and the cast and the fans can Dedacate GB3 to Harold Ramis/Egon!!!

  9. Please… stop the madness. Not every studio "property" needs to be run into the ground, and the Law of Diminishing Returns certainly applies in this particular case… to wit: Which do you fondly remember: Ghostbusters 1 or 2? Which do you frequently quote from GB 1 or 2? Though there's probably a few who love the ramped-up, weirdly saccharine sequel to the first film, I can't believe that would be justification for continuing on with this as a franchise… It's really about Dan Ackroyd not letting go of the past, and studio suits who only see first weekend dollar signs that wish this project to be birthed into existence. For the rest of us, life has moved on… we remember the original Ghostbusters very fondly, and are content to leave it at that (save for the occasional re-watch).

RIP Harold Ramis… Genius comedy writer/director (and performer).

  10. It's Very Sad that Harold Ramis Passed away! I heard that lastnight on the news and it's a Shock! Harold would want Ghostbusters 3 to still be made and Harold's GB Pals and the Fans and Sony can Dedicate Ghostbusters 3 to Harold Ramis! I'm hoping that Bill Murray will do GB3 since Harold Passed away and they can have somebody who looks like Harold and if not they can have somebody play Egon's Son for GB3 so that Egon's Son can do the science work such as working on the Proton Packs,Ghost Traps Etc. Harold would be Smiling from Heaven! R.I.P. Harold Ramis! Bill Murray Played Dr. Venkman when John Belushi died of a drug overdose and for Egon/Harold they can do the samething. They can have somebody look like Harold or they can have somebody play Egon's Son for GB3! I'll be in line when the movie comes out and Harold will be watching from Heaven and his Spirit will be with us Always!
