Got a Tip?

‘Ghostbusters 3’ Now Controlled By Judd Apatow Productions

Is “Ghostbusters 3” under the auspices of Judd Apatow productions? According to Cinemablend who says they saw it in Production Weekly (though it’s conspicuously absent from their Twitter or hompage), yes.

It does make some sense though, the film is being written by “The Office” writers Lee Eisenberg and Greg Stupnitsky, who also wrote the Apatow production of the biblical comedy “Year One,” directed by “Ghostbusters” alum Harold Ramis later this summer.

Does this mean Seth Rogen or Jason Segel will play Bill Murray’s new junior sidekick? Dan Aykroyd recently said work on the script would begin this summer. But he also hopes production will start in the late fall. Sounds far too optimistic, but don’t be surprised if the Apatow gang’s love of nostalgia supersedes their normally acute sense for lame sequels.

Update: Production Weekly emailed us and shows a document that indeed shows the project is under Apatow productions. “Apatow is just credited as a producer on the sequel,” they write. “In what capacity of creative involvement he will lend to the project is undetermined at this time.”

The short logline is: “A ragtag group of paranormal researchers reopen their notorious ghost removal service.”

  1. I think Rogen and even Segel might be too big at this point and could overshadow the old guys. Get some of the less well-known Apatow players in there, like Martin Starr or Jay Baruchel or even Bill Hader.
