Get Ready For ‘The Bourne Legacy’: Featurettes, Posters, A Parody & More

nullThis week marks the release of “The Bourne Legacy,” which finally allows writer/director Tony Gilroy to demonstrate his unique take on the franchise after hanging back in the writer's seat for three films. Universal are just as eager to present the film as a different beast too, seeing as they've released a veritable smorgasbord of promotional material ranging from insight into the film's stunts to the music.

When the first theatrical trailer was released, a highlight within was the shot of Jeremy Renner and Rachel Weisz atop a motorcycle, mid-chase through the streets of Manila, as they jump a flight of stairs and grind the stone staircase to the bottom. As it turns out, the jump is part of a 14-minute sequence that's showcased in a quick featurette (via Yahoo Movies), as interviews with Renner, Weisz, and Gilroy take us through the action. Apparently the setpiece required more than a hundred stunt cars, minimal protection for its leads, and a dozen more variables were necessary to put the whole scene together.

The Manila motorcycle sequence firmly looks to be the film's centerpiece, but what about the score accompanying it? James Newton Howard replaces Paul Greengrass collaborator John Powell this time around, but another name that actually has remained through every Bourne film is electronic artist Moby. The musician has played a central role in establishing the tone of the franchise, allowing his song “Extreme Ways” to function as a theme of sorts, and now with 'Legacy' hoping to branch out while still staying true to its roots, he's remixed his track (on iTunes now) with a whole new makeover, and allowed a making-of video (via Spinner) to show the studio process of bringing the song to life.

Finally, switching gears with a light-hearted take on the rather serious franchise, leave it up to Funny or Die to bring up what everyone was thinking when Renner was first cast. A pretty amusing parody, entitled “The Damon Legacy,” has just gone live on the site, and re-dubs the trailer to comment on the possible circumstances behind Renner's inclusion. Check that out below, and along with a new wallpaper and banners joining it, consider yourself up to speed when “The Bourne Legacy” opens this Friday, August 10th.nullnullnullnull
