The Oscar hosting job is a thankless one. Unless you’re Billy Crystal, it’s a Herculean feat to make those three to four hours feel fresh, lively, and entertaining. The past couple of years have seen a mixed back of results, from Seth MacFarlane‘s dismal outing in 2013, to Ellen Degeneres‘ passable duties this year, which is mostly remembered for that selfie. But in 2015, the reins will pass to an Oscar veteran, and a guy who knows his way around hosting duties.
Neil Patrick Harris has been tapped for the 2015 ceremonies, and it should be an easier fit for the actor than some other choices. He’s hosted the Tony Awards, and the Emmys twice, so he’ll have no problem getting into the tuxedo. Even more, he performed the opening number at the 2010 Oscars with glamorous ease. So yeah, Harris will be just fine, and we bet producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron are already hard at work writing plenty of "Gone Girl" jokes.
This year’s Oscars will air, as per usual, on ABC on February 22nd. Check out Harris’ 2010 Oscar song below. [Variety]
