With only three seasons to its name, HBO’s adaptation of “Game Of Thrones” has solidified itself as part of the top tier of TV shows — at least in this current era — and while most readers of the original George R. R. Martin-penned book series are willing to roll with the changes made to source material, one man is taking issue with one of the show’s most iconic images.
It turns out the creator of Westeros himself, Martin, isn’t a fan of the show’s version of the Iron Throne. Martin took to his LiveJournal blog (via Page To Premiere) to describe what his version of the Iron Throne is, “HUGE [sic], hulking, black and twisted, with the steep iron stairs in front, the high seat from which the king looks DOWN on everyone in the court… my throne is a hunched beast looming over the throne room, ugly and asymmetric.”
Though Martin concedes that the TV show’s version is “a terrific design [that] has served the show very well,” it isn’t the one that he wants in his readers’ minds as they go through the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series. To further illustrate his point, he attached an illustration by Marc Simonetti that shows the twisted and ugly Iron Throne as imagined by Martin. We have to admit, it does look a lot more foreboding and intense than the one on the HBO program, but it’s a version that could never work in the real world as its size is impractical from a production standpoint.

That's awesome! And more in line of what I imagined when reading the books before the TV series came out.
