My, my, my, the news world moves fast. It seems like it was only a distant three of four minutes ago that we heard that Micheal Bay and Paramount had axed decided against renewing Megan Fox’s contract to star in “Transformers 3,” and now her replacement has already been announced — or at least the frontrunner for the next :90 seconds or so until five other publications report seventeen other frontrunners.
When do we even have the time to mourn the loss of gratuitous Megan Fox derriere shots? Ah well. The Wrap is now reporting that British actress and upcoming “Prince of Persia” star Gemma Arteton is the lead choice.
Bay has reportedly met with — of course he has— swimsuit models Bar Rafaeli, Miranda Kerr and Brooklyn Decker to potentially take the role as well, but apparently he’s somehow decided that brains, beauty and talent are better than just looks. Sort of, she’s just the frontrunner… for now…
“Talent” is relative though. Some people seem to love Arteton, but she’s a bit untested in our minds. She’s fine in her small, “Quantum of Solace” role (who wouldn’t have been), dull as rocks in the woefully poor “Clash of the Titans” (then again, it was “Clash of the Titans”) and the reviews from Cannes about “Tamara Drewe” don’t make her sound like A-list material either (maybe it’s just the Made-for-TV like quality of the film). And of course, “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time,” looks like it’s not much of an acting vehicle to say the least.
Maybe our main problem with her right now is that her choice of roles sucks so far? Whatever, it’s not like we were expecting the young version of Juliette Binoche to take the role. Expect this one to keep developing.
she likes shitty movies or he doesn't read the scripts or she doesn't care!
She was fantastic in the BBC adaptation of "Tess of the D'Urbervilles". I'll grant that being great in a Thomas Hardy adaptation might not translate too well to this part.
I love that somehow Megan Fox has become too big for Transformers 3 despite being the only lead cast member without a non-TF successful film
Hows about Carey Mulligan, I hear she needs a job and is already pretty tight with Shia Le Beouf?
she got very good reviews for her performance in the disappearance of alice creed. now i'm not the biggest arteron fan, but acting-wise she's streets ahead of the fox
Yeah, 'Tess of the D'Urbervilles' proves she can act. Shame about the subsequent movies, TF3 is the ultimate window-dressing role for women, a real low point, they audition models, it used to be Megan Fox for christs sake, just digitise the fucking thing. All the morons who watch this shit will be just as happy lusting after a better-than-real-life digitised ass.
She's awful in Prince of Persia. Granted, the role's a thankless retread of "tough princess talks back to male superior" cliches, but she acts as bored as the writers must have been. That said, I have no doubt it will make its money back and then some – and by Hollywood logic, Arterton will officially become bankable. So don't be surprised if she pops up in Transformers, or some other shitty summer vehicle 12 months from now.
As long as it's someone I'd want to have sex with.
Whoa, Whoa…I know it is the cool thing to bash Fox but she wasn't that bad in Jennifer's Body and she was rather good in the Kelly Ripa show 'Hope and Faith'.
I also love the hypocrisy , Le Bouef states that Spielberg dropped the ball on Indy 4 but has remained silent on the crime that is the Transformers franchise?
I'd look back at the Maxim Hot 100 list and choose one of them…
I'm sure the movie will be horrible no matter who they cast.
I'm so happy you guys are back!
And when I saw this all I thought was, she's not that great anyways.
I don't think they need to give Shia another love interest though. No need.
Translation: All out freak sex party at Michael Bay's tonight!
Concerning Arteton, she better watch out: how many actress, let alone British ones, got any respect locking up that many 1-dimensional tentpole women? This quickly & early in her career? Sure she'll make money but at what cost? Stay in Britain and do indies, to balance it out?
@Nel: just recently Shia made a little huff about TF2:ROTF in light of prepping for TF3. He was openly frustrated at how the sequel came out but was hopeful about the next one. (And how he's not doing stuff for money anymore, like these popcorn flicks/remakes/reboots.) I'm sure you'll find the links.
And he's got first name on the bill. And, yes, he is a guy. D'uh. Shia – as Sam – is indispensable. A woman, in M.Bay's world, is not.
