A lot of noise is hitting the web about this comment Gary Oldman, Commissioner Gordon in geek parlance, made at ComicCon today. Oldman is there representing “The Book Of Eli,” a Hughes Brothers film (trailer came out yesterday) that he plays a villain in. Asked about the sequel to “The Dark Knight,” aka “Batman 3” as some are referring to it’s TBD title.
When asked about the next Batman film he said, “The next Batman is next year, so I think it is two years away. But you didn’t hear it from me.”
/Film who transcribed the quote infers that his quotes mean the film shoots in 2010 and will hit theaters in 2011 which make sense and they were there in the room and surely understand the context. And hey, that’s great, we’d love to see another Batman film by Christopher Nolan, but we’re not getting our hopes up just quite this second. There is a little thing called a script and “Inception” to get out of the way first.
One would think if “Batman 3” does shoot in 2010 it’ll probably late in the year after “Inception” hits in the summer, but timing is really anyone’s guess right now. Oldman saying the film will shoot next year doesn’t necessarily mean that’ll happen.
I know it's no time for character campaigning, but, uh, Christina Hendricks as Poison Ivy FTW!
christina hendricks!
jaw hits floor, eyes bug out, steam shoots from ears, sound of train whistle.
That's the official warner bros cartoon approval of lolita's suggestion.
She's pretty as hell, but I sincerely doubt Nolan is going to use characters like Poison Ivy.
His is a realistic Batman world which therefore discounts most of the characters in the comics because they're too cartoony — which is the reason he went with Rahz Al Ghoul (sic, totally wrong spelling, i know) in the first one as one of his main villains.
Sure, like Scarecrow, he can probably turn a character into the Riddler as a plausible adversary (but i hope he doesn't, we've seen "riddle," serial killers films before), but The Penguin? Cat Woman? Poison Ivy? I think he'd be hard pressed to make most of these fit in his world which I think is part of the reason why they might be taking so long, though J. Nolan and Dave Goyer are probably outlining stuff in their spare time.
If he sticks to the vision, i doubt we'll see many of those typical characters.
Also, she must have severe back problems.
I think Batman 3 is further along than Nolan is letting on. Sure by this point in 2006 the Heath Ledger casting had been announced, but by all accounts, Nolan had Ledger in mind as early as 2005. I bet the Nolans and Goyer have a detailed outline now for B3 that will be a completed script by the end of this year. Of course, Nolan could crank it out for a 2011 release. Or he could take time off after Inception, which would make it Summer 2012. With the success of TDK, I doubt Warner Bros would want to mess with the formula and release a Batman film in November/December 2011…
