With shooting just a few weeks away, casting for Matt Reeves‘ “Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes” is ramping up quickly. So far, apart from the motion capture actor extraordinaire Andy Serkis, the film features “Zero Dark Thirty” star Jason Clarke and Kodi Smit-McPhee, the boy from Reeves’ previous feature, “Let Me In.” And yet another big name has joined the cast, “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy” and “The Dark Knight Trilogy” star Gary Oldman.
Coming Soon reports that Oldman will be boarding the project as the leader of a human colony. The newest sequel reportedly is set 15 years after “Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes,” with scientists hiding out and battling to survive, while Caesar, the ape protagonist of the original played by Serkis, struggles to keep up his position as the leader of the primates.
“Total Recall” remake writer Mark Bomback penned the script after Scott Z. Burns‘ draft was passed on when original helmer Rupert Wyatt left the project. Oldman’s got Robert Luketic‘s “Paranoia” opposite Harrison Ford next and then the “RoboCop” remake will follow. Oh, and in case you’re wondering, no, James Franco isn’t coming back. “Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes” rises May 23, 2014.
Deadline confirmed this.
