You thought Gary Oldman’s only shot at an Oscar this year was for his leading role in the David Fincher film, “Mank,” didn’t you? Well, surprise, surprise, we now have a second contending drama in the works that just announced a February release date, titled “Crisis.”

According to distributor Quiver, “Crisis” is now scheduled for a February release date, from writer-director Nicholas Jarecki. And we also have a first look at the “Traffic”-style drama that aims to tackle the multi-pronged issue of the opioid crisis. As seen in the first look photos, the cast includes the aforementioned Oldman, as well as Evangeline Lilly and Armie Hammer. The film spotlights the opioid crisis by showcasing various storylines that display all the sides of the issue, from a multi-cartel Fentanyl smuggling operation, a recovering Oxycodone addict tracking down his missing son, and a worker finding out secrets about the pharmaceutical company he works for and the “non-addictive” painkiller it aims to release.
Joining Lilly and Oldman in the stacked ensemble cast are Armie Hammer, Greg Kinnear, Michelle Rodriguez, Luke Evans, Lily-Rose Depp, Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi, Duke Nicholson, Veronica Ferres, and Martin Donovan. As mentioned, the film comes from writer-director Nicholas Jarecki. “Crisis” marks his first feature film in nearly a decade, after the 2012 release of “Arbitrage.”

“Crisis” is set to be released in theaters via Quiver on February 26, 2021, with a VOD release following shortly on March 5. Yes, with the extended Oscar-qualifying window, that does place “Crisis” right smack dab into the awards discussion. We’ll just have to wait and see if the stacked cast means the film will actually be any good.
