Mélanie Laurent has already won a César Award for her talent in front of the camera. She’s also had starring roles in “Don’t Worry, I’m Fine,” “Inglourious Basterds,” and “Enemy.” But as a director, Laurent is still coming into her own. With her latest gig behind the camera, on the crime thriller “Galveston,” Laurent continues to flex her considerable skills as a director, with career-best performances from Ben Foster and Elle Fanning in tow.

In honor of the film’s impending release, we’re excited to share an exclusive clip from “Galveston” that shows just why Laurent, Foster, and Fanning were getting rave reviews coming out of this year’s SXSW Film Festival. The clip is short, but in that time, viewers get a chance to see how Foster and Fanning have incredible chemistry as Roy and Rocky, respectively.
“Galveston’ tells the story of a hard-drinking criminal enforcer that escapes a double-cross scheme. While killing those that are attempting to kill him, Roy discovers Rocky is being held captive. Together, they escape and hit the road, attempting to start a new life in Galveston. And in the exclusive clip, we see the beginning of their tumultuous relationship, as Roy tries his best to convince Rocky to go her own way, as she insists sticking by his side.
In our review of “Galveston,” we commend Laurent’s directing ability, but give special mention to Foster and Fanning, saying both actors are “at the top of their game.”
Joining Foster and Fanning in the cast are Beau Bridges, Lili Reinhart, and Robert Aramayo. The script is written by Jim Hammett, based on the acclaimed novel from “True Detective” creator Nic Pizzolatto.
“Galveston” will hit select theaters and On Demand on October 19.
Here’s the synopsis:
Roy (Foster) is a heavy-drinking criminal enforcer and mob hit man whose boss set him up in a double-cross scheme. After killing his would-be assassins before they could kill him, Roy discovers Rocky (Fanning), a young woman being held captive, and reluctantly takes her with him on his escape. Determined to find safety and sanctuary in Galveston, Roy must find a way to stop his boss from pursuing them while trying to outrun the demons from his and Rocky’s pasts.
