Got a Tip?

FX Renews ‘Fargo’ For “All New” Season 3

"Fargo" Season 2 Episode 6 Patrick WilsonIt’s funny how fortunes change. When "Fargo" and "True Detective" both arrived in 2014, it was the latter that was seen as the smarter, more philosophical show, providing more of a meal to the quirky snack of FX‘s Coen Brothers approved series. But a year on and things are drastically different. "True Detective" season two missed the mark and HBO is still trying to figure out a third season, while FX is basking in critical glow of the second round of their wintry series and ready for another one.

THR reports that the network has renewed "Fargo" for season three, and it looks like fans better get ready once again for a new story, and new cast of characters. "Year two of ‘Fargo’ is an extraordinary achievement and, given Noah Hawley’s masterful storytelling, we can’t wait to see where the third, all-new version of Fargo takes us," FX execs said in a statement.

Indeed, the network are falling over themselves for Hawley, recently inking the "Fargo" creator for a limited series adaptation of Kurt Vonnegut‘s "Cat’s Cradle."

I’d wager the plan will be to get "Fargo" done for the third season air next year, with "Cat’s Cradle" to follow. But however it falls, Hawley has certainly over taken Nic Pizzolatto as TV’s hottest new dramatic series mastermind.

  1. sorry no, the Pizzalatto reference was regarding the article. And didn\’t mean to come across as a hater just for me he still has some things to reconcile.

  2. @LULU agree to disagree, I loved Fargo season 1, I\’m still watching season 2 but I really think that something is missing. I never mentioned True Detective, while I think season 2 was sloppy and not very good I\’m not a Pizzalatto hater either and all in all I\’m not enjoying more season 2 of Fargo. In my opinion if you want to watch a sophomore season very well executed and really meaningful you should look at The Knick. Of course I concede that anthology shows are harder to execute past the first season. In this case maybe they should simply stick to mini-series and only make one season.

  3. totally disagree with @SEB. Season one drew me in and lost me by mid season, but Season two is an upgrade, pure artistry, a sign of a series taking its time to build season by season. I also think Tarantino is evolving well, so I guess what\’s boring to one is detailed and absorbing for another. The lesson for Pizzolatto though may be that true genius is quiet and confident, and also if you\’re going to borrow from other sources, take from the Greeks.
