Got a Tip?

FX Confirmed To Bring ‘Fargo’ Series To TV, Coen Brothers To Executive Produce

nullIt seems in their attempt to get themselves out of bankruptcy, and use their back catalog for everything its worth, MGM holds nothing sacred. The studio has struck a deal with FX to create a dramatic series based on the Coen Brothers’ seminal 1996 film “Fargo.”

Reports of a television adaptation first began in March, and while we didn’t think any of the original cast or crew would be involved, Deadline is reporting that the Academy Award-winning sibling duo will executive produce. That’s not to say they’ll be directly involved — we’d imagine that the positions are largely ceremonial anyway — as Noah Hawley (“The Unusuals," “My Generation”) will be writing the project. Exact details aren't known just yet, but it's probably not a stretch to assume that the show will focus on a small town sheriff in North Dakota whose cases take her in over her head.

While there have been previous attempts to adapt movies for television — some better than others (remember that recent "Transporter" trailer?) — it’ll certainly be trickier using a highly regarded film (from even more highly regarded filmmakers) as source material and still retain the unique charm that made it work so well. What do you guys think? Can this actually work? Or will this be destined to fail? Let us know in the comments.

  1. This wouldn't be the first time. There was a network series starring Edie Falco produced in the late 90s. About three episodes were produced but it never aired.
