On the surface, “Funny Face” might look like a drama about a very angry man that feels completely out of control of his life and has to take it out on the only enemy that he can find, a wealthy, corrupt businessman. But under the surface, there’s a lot more going on in Tim Sutton’s drama than meets the eye.
And in honor of “Funny Face” getting released this week, we’re thrilled to give our readers an exclusive look at a clip from the film that is a rant about the New York Knicks, on the surface, but also serves as an encapsulation of everything going on in the life of Saul and his new love, Zama.
“Funny Face” tells the story of Saul (Cosmo Jarvis), a guy that is slowly watching his neighborhood and his family get torn apart because of injustices he sees in his beloved New York City. He teams up with a young woman, Zama (Dela Meskienyar), to seek justice against a greedy businessman (Jonny Lee Miller). And somehow in a 3+ minute rant about the Knicks, Saul is able to explain how all of this fits together.
As mentioned, “Funny Face” is written and directed by Tim Sutton, who is probably best known for his previous film “Donnybrook.” He also worked on features such as “Memphis” and “Dark Night.” And yes, if you’re wondering what the filmmaker behind those films would do if he could make a superhero film, then “Funny Face” is the answer.
“Funny Face” arrives on April 2. You can watch the exclusive clip below:
