While "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" hits home video next month, anything related to the franchise tends to be better experienced with an audience. And for devotees of The Force, one of the biggest special features coming with ‘The Force Awakens’ will be getting the big-screen treatment at SXSW.
Walt Disney has announced that the feature-length documentary "Secrets Of The Force Awakens: A Cinematic Journey" will premiere at the festival. The movie will tell the complete story behind the making of ‘The Force Awakens,’ revealed through in-depth footage and exclusive interviews with the actors and filmmakers. Perhaps the most interesting thing with ‘Cinematic Journey’ will be to see how the production weathered Harrison Ford‘s injury, and whether it captures any slight friction between J.J. Abrams, Kathleen Kennedy and the studio, when the former pair were rumored to have asked, and were denied, an opening date for the movie of May 4, 2016. (That’s right: Had things gone differently, no one would have seen ‘The Force Awakens’ yet.)
SXSW kicks off on Friday, and ‘The Force Awakens’ hits digital download on April 1st and then Blu-ray on April 5th. ‘Cinematic Journey’ will screen at SXSW on Monday, March 14th at noon at the Paramount Theatre.
As a bonus, check out some rarely seen, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" photos below and this fan-made "Darth Maul Apprentice" short that has been impressing ‘Star Wars’ devotees.
