After countless rumors of release dates, delays, and social media teases, this past weekend, Frank Ocean floored the music world by dropping two albums — Endless and Blonde — along with a massive magazine titled, “Boys Don’t Cry.” He ended the four year drought since 2012’s Channel Orange is a huge way, and in the process, gave his fans no shortage of material to wade through. And among other revelations, it turns out that Frank Ocean is a movie buff.
Granted, this shouldn’t be much of a surprise for anyone who has listened to his lyrics (“I’m feeling like Stanley Kubrick, this is some visionary shit/Been tryna film pleasure with my eyes wide shut but it keeps on moving” he sang on “Novacane” from 2011’s Nostalgia, Ultra), but his passion for film runs deep. In the pages of “Boys Don’t Cry,” Ocean lists his 100 favorite films, even noting the total running time (207.23 hours).
Featuring works from Stanley Kubrick, Werner Herzog, Paul Thomas Anderson, David Lynch, Quentin Tarantino and more, it turns out that in addition to being a great musician, Ocean has some fine taste. Check out the full list below and head to Genius for a further breakdown of how Ocean’s love for movies has made its way into his lyrics. [via One Perfect Shot]
