What is “Incognito”? The Ed Brubaker-written and Sean Phillips-illustrated limited run graphic novel may well be a fresh, if not outright original twist on the tired superhero genre.
Set in a world where superheroes have existed since the 19th century, “Incognito” follows the ironically-named (hopefully) Zack Overkill, a supervillain indentured to his boss, The Black Death. Overkill is caught and snitches on The Black Death in exchange for a second chance at life through the Witness Protection program. He is given a new identity and drugs to dull his powers…but he soon finds that his past has followed him.
That’s a pretty solid start if we say so and Fox seems to agree. Deadline reports that the studio has secured rights to a film adaptation of the comic. Pulitzer Prize-winner Robert Schenkkan will write the screenplay. Schenkkan also scripted 2002 Phillip Noyce’s “The Quiet American” and a number of episodes for HBO’s “The Pacific”. His most recent script was the epic war drama “Anabasis”, based on solider Xenophon’s account of 10,000 Greek mercenaries who had to fight across a hostile land around 400BC. The film is set to be directed by “District B13” helmer Patrick Allesandrin so expect an extended parkour sequence.
