Streaming services and TV networks have finally cracked the code on how to get A-list talent to sign on for a series – make it limited. Every year, more and more “limited series” or “event series” come around, featuring massive talent signing on for 6 to 10 episodes. Julia Roberts, Amy Adams, and even Al Pacino have joined this trend. But perhaps the best combination of acting talent and star power is found in the upcoming FX limited series “Fosse/Verdon.”
The series, which tells the story of Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon, two of Broadway’s biggest names, stars four-time Oscar nominee Michelle Williams and Oscar-winning actor Sam Rockwell. And as seen in the first full trailer for the series, over the course of “Fosse/Verdon’s” eight episodes, viewers are guaranteed to get their fair share of incredible (probably Emmy-winning) acting, beautiful costumes, great music, and mind-blowing dancing.
On paper, there seems to be absolutely no way that “Fosse/Verdon” could be anything less than amazing, especially when you consider the talent behind the scenes. Steven Levenson, the writer behind the Broadway smash hit “Dear Evan Hansen” is aboard as a writer/producer. He’s joined by producer Lin-Manuel Miranda, who obviously is a Broadway star and now, full-fledged Hollywood A-lister.
And to really push this series over the top, joining Rockwell and Williams in the cast are Margaret Qualley, Norbert Leo Butz, Aya Cash, Nate Corddry, and Paul Reiser.
“Fosse/Verdon” premieres on FX on Tuesday, April 9.
Here’s the synopsis:
Bob Fosse is a visionary filmmaker and one of theater’s most influential choreographers and directors. Gwen Verdon is the greatest Broadway dancer of all time. Fosse/Verdon will tell the story of these two brilliant, complicated individuals – the love they shared, the art they created, and the price they paid in the pursuit of greatness.
