‘For All Mankind’ Trailer: Apple TV+ Series Imagines A World Where The Soviet Union Beat The USA In The Space Race

As you watch the first trailer for “For All Mankind,” a new historical drama series coming to Apple TV+ later this year, you may think you’ve seen this story before. The trailer opens in the 1960s, as Americans watch with bated breath, as an astronaut steps on the Moon for the first time. However, that’s where “For All Mankind” zigs when you think it’s going to zag.

“For All Mankind” imagines a world where an American astronaut isn’t the first person to step on the lunar surface. Instead, the Soviet Union beats us there, with a cosmonaut earning the distinction. Instead of ending the space race, as we saw in reality, the Soviet victory kickstarts an even more amplified campaign from NASA, where the US is attempting to get to the Moon, which has water, and then venture off to Mars and beyond.

As mentioned, “For All Mankind” is one of the first series coming to the Apple TV+ streaming service, which was formally announced only a couple of months ago. While we know that there are a ton of Hollywood A-listers involved in projects for the tech company, there are still many details unknown at this time.

The series stars Joel Kinnaman, Michael Dorman, Sarah Jones, Shantel VanSanten, and Wrenn Schmidt. “For All Mankind” is developed by Ronald D. Moore, who is probably best known as the man behind the Syfy “Battlestar Galactica” reboot, “Outlander,” and “Star Trek.”

No word on when the series will arrive on the fledgling streaming service, but with its quality cast, and interesting historical fiction premise, it appears that Apple has at least one more series that is sure to attract some viewers.
