‘Flux Gourmet’ Teaser Trailer: Peter Strickland Returns With A New Gastronomical Horror

British outré filmmaker Peter Strickland is stuck in the past in the very best sense of the phrase. Whether he’s making eerie, giallo throwback pictures (“Berberian Sound Studio”), psychedelic softcore fetish control movies (“The Duke Of Burgundy”), or strange, bizarre horrors that are a mix of English kitchen-sink realism and ghoulish creepiness (“In Fabric”), Strickland is continuously creating some kind of vintage, throwback picture with heavy nods to the ’60s and ’70s of erotic, kink, strange, and left-of-center cinema. He’s so distinct in his mélange of these disparate influences he’s practically become a genre unto himself.

Now, Strickland’s latest film is “Flux Gourmet,” which features Asa Butterfield of “Sex Education” fame and “Game of Thrones” star Gwendoline Christie. “Flux Gourmet,” will be released by IFC Films in North America in the summer, which was already announced last year, but first, it will make its premiere soon at the 2022 Berlin Film Festival.

The film is set at an institute devoted to culinary and alimentary performance; a collective find themselves embroiled in power struggles, artistic vendettas, and gastrointestinal disorders.

“‘Flux Gourmet’ came about through a personal frustration with how alimentary disorders or food allergies have been comically portrayed in some films, and without wanting to embark on a finger-wagging mission, I wanted to write something devoted to the disruptions of the stomach whilst attempting to maintain a degree of dignity to deeply private and embarrassing symptoms,” Strickland said in a statement last year.

The film’s terrific cast also includes Ariane Labed (“Alps”), Fatma Mohamed (the breakout star of “In Fabric”), and Makis Papadimitriou (“Chevalier”). Leo Bill and Richard Bremmer co-star. We simply can’t wait, and today, a teaser trailer for “Flux Gourmet” has been released, and you can watch it below. Summer 2022 can’t come soon enough.
