Check your dusty memory. Remember macabre video director Floria Sigismondi’s rock-biopic of the ’70s all-female rock band “The Runaways”?
Well, it’s finally found financing, via River Road Entertainment (“Brokeback Mountain,” “Lust, Caution”) and set to go into production in the late fall according to Variety. Joan Jett is one of the film’s executive producers, and casting hasn’t even started yet. Sigusmondi is best known for directing tenebrous and spooky videos by Marilyn Manson, David Bowie and Sigur Rós.
Back in April of 2007, the film was titled “Neon Angels” (named after one of their hits), but evidently that’s changed now to simply “The Runaways.” Back then it was also important to the producers of the film that the movie be an indie with an edgy, R-Rating, but no mention of that either.
