Musical biopics are hot right now. We’re seeing actors from all over try their hand at landing the roles that often require intense vocal training and makeup. And apparently, that is especially the cast for all of the actresses attempting to land the role of Madonna in the new biopic about the Material Girl.

According to a report from THR, the “grueling” audition process for the Madonna biopic are in full effect, with a who’s-who of actresses lining up to land the coveted lead role. Folks like Julia Garner and Florence Pugh are perhaps the biggest names still involved in the process, but there are other actresses such as “Euphoria” star Alexa Demie, “Mothering Sunday” star Odessa Young, and “Mayor of Kingstown” breakout Emma Laird.
However, considering each actress is expected to be able to sing and dance in addition to act, the casting process is also branching out to look at musical artists including Bebe Rexha and Sky Ferreira. The latter of which had a small role in Edgar Wright’s “Baby Driver.”
The report claims that the process for auditioning involves lots and lots of dancing, sometimes with Madonna herself, as well as scene readings and singing. The process has apparently been going on for months, and there’s no end in sight just yet.

As you probably know already, Madonna is involved heavily in the casting process as the singer is also on board as producer, co-writer, and director of the film. This is in stark contrast to other music biopics, which typically have limited involvement from the artists themselves.
No release date for the Madonna biopic has been announced, but clearly this is a film that many actresses are excited to land.
