Got a Tip?

‘The Flash’ : Not As Quick As Expected? Greg Berlanti Says He’s Just A Writer/Producer

Liars! In May the trades reported that a few D.C./Warner Bros. super hero film properties were possibly headed towards some green lights and or major announcements in the near future. The characters mentioned were “Aquaman,” “Wonder Woman” (which we heard some rumors about) and “The Flash.” Many expected announcements at Comic-Con — and possibly some more about “Superman: The Man Of Steel” under the aegis of Christopher Nolan and “Batman 3” — and nothing came at all.

In June there was some progress. Warner Bros. hired Greg Berlanti, Michael Green and Marc Guggenheim, who worked together on the upcoming “Green Lantern” screenplay, to pen a treatment for the sequel to that film, as well as for “The Flash” movie.

But wasn’t “The Flash” in development with Ryan Reynolds ages ago? Wouldn’t they be working off that treatment somewhat? Berlanti talked to Collider during Comic-Con and said they’re not very deep into the project. “We’re just getting into the script. We’re just starting the script, so that’s about where we’re at,” he said.

There’s also been rumors that Berlanti, who has directed the rom-com, “Life As We Know It” and “The Broken Hearts Club: A Romantic Comedy,” would be helming the ‘Flash’ movie himself, but while he didn’t deny his involvement, when asked by Collider what his participation would be, he responded, “I’m a producer on it, and I’m working on the story with the same guys I did the ‘Green Lantern’ script with.” That doesn’t sound like someone who is directing to us. And yes, it’s really early days so it’s probably too early to tell, but it jives with what we’ve been told all along.
