And timing is everything. Just as director Steven Soderbergh has taken the stage at Comic-Con 2011, a first for the Academy Award-winning filmmaker, Relativity Media has released the trailer for his upcoming action-thriller, “Haywire.”
Starring MMA fighter Gina Carano as a double-crossed covert ops specialist who seeks revenge on the company that betrayed her, “Haywire” boasts a top-notch supporting cast that features Channing Tatum, Ewan McGregor, Michael Fassbender, Antonio Banderas, Bill Paxton, Michael Douglas and Michael Angarano. Written by Lem Dobbs (”The Limey”), David Holmes (the ‘Oceans’ trilogy, “Out of Sight”) wrote the score.
While the trailer for “Haywire” is perhaps more of your traditional action-thriller trailer — essentially a sizzle reel of furious fight sequences, car changes, betrayal and revenge plot points plus showing off the athleticism and fight prowess of its lead — the fight footage shown at Comic-Con this afternoon are anything but (more on that later).

Mallory Kane is a highly trained operative who works for a government security contractor in the dirtiest, most dangerous corners of the world. After successfully freeing a Chinese journalist held hostage, she is double crossed and left for dead by someone close to her in her own agency. Suddenly the target of skilled assassins who know her every move, Mallory must find the truth in order to stay alive.

if Soderbergh hadn\’t directed this and it didn\’t star Gina Carano* would anyone be talking about it? this site and others are constanly posting \’updates\’ about this film…which has always sounded (and now looks) like the usual derivative shit…
* why do we care about this person? what makes her any different from the seemingly doezens of WWF \’stars\’ pushing their way into movies where they clearly don\’t belong? I have nothing against her and if she can act then good for her…but really, why is anyone looking forward to this film?

Channing Tatum, regardless of what a few tastemakers have tricked themselves into believing, is easily one of the WORST ACTORS OF ALL-TIME.
His voice! Jesus Christ. Whenever he tries to inflect, he sounds like a little kid pissing his pants.

That\’s the second Soderbergh trailer in a week that reveals the death of a major character. Guess he\’s not concerned about spoilers.
Not 100% sold. Take away the starry cast and it would look a bit similar to any number of low-rent Screen Gems-type January efforts. That said, much of that might be to do with the cheesy voiceover and music.
