While there was brief talk earlier this year that Fox Searchlight might possibly drop Wes Anderson‘s “The Grand Budapest Hotel” into the awards season race, it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen. However, with a trailer right around the corner, it looks like we’re going to be getting a big taste very soon, but until then, here’s a sampler.
The first poster for the highly anticipated film has dropped, and it’s exactly what you might expect from the filmmaker. It’s the sort of highly detailed, gorgeous, quasi-fairy tale feel we’ve come to expect from Anderson, who doesn’t seem to be shifting gears too broadly here. Or is he? The film is set during the first half of the 20th century, and follows a legendary concierge at a famous European hotel along with his young employee and trusted protégé. The plot revolves around the theft and recovery of a priceless Renaissance painting, the battle for an enormous family fortune and the forces of history affecting Europe at the time. So, “Budapest Men“?
Either way, with a killer ensemble cast—Ralph Fiennes, Edward Norton, Owen Wilson, Tilda Swinton, Jude Law, Bill Murray, Adrien Brody, Harvey Keitel, Jason Schwartzman, Willem Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum, Saoirse Ronan, Mathieu Amalric, F Murray Abraham, Bob Balaban and Lea Seydoux—we can’t wait to find out what he’s cooked up. Why do u doubt a release this year? Why else release a poster and trailer at this juncture? Cannes next year??? I could see a LA/NY release in late Dec. and then an expansion in mid to late Jan. like he did with Royal Tenebaums.
