Since the first “Twilight” movie ruled the box office four years ago, studios have been trying to hit that sweet spot of female-friendly genre-fare. Summit is hoping they can catch lightning in bottle again with the upcoming Jonathan Levine-helmed adaptation of the zombie-romance novel “Warm Bodies” and they’re getting ball rolling on their marketing campaign with the first poster for the 2013 film.
MTV has the exclusive first look at the fairly bland poster, though we’re optimistic based purely on Levine’s previous work, “The Wackness” and “50/50.” We hope that he can bring the same deft hand he brought to those earlier works, because a film with a premise as silly as this — a zombie falls in love with a human — can easily either veer too far into camp or into an overly-serious romance.
The director elaborated about the feel of the film to MTV, calling it “widely unique in its tone.” He also cautioned that his take on the zombie genre “may be divisive,” explaining that the film “take[s] some liberties with the [zombie] mythology, but at the same, it’s very grounded in the science of zombie-ism and uses that as a springboard for a more fantastical story. ”
Still, the poster seems engineered to grace the cover of the inevitable paperback reissue of the Isaac Marion novel. Here’s hoping the future marketing is more inspired. Check out the poster below.
