After revisiting the O.J. Simpson saga to surprisingly resonant results with “The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story,” Ryan Murphy is turning his anthology toward another curious chapter in notorious celebrity history: the 1997 murder of fashion icon Gianni Versace by serial killer Andrew Cunanan.
EW has the glamorous first look at Penélope Cruz as Donatella Versace in “The Assassination Of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.” I’m not sure why it’s Photoshopped to the point of being pretty much an illustration, but I suppose we’ll take what we can get. Edgar Ramírez and Darren Criss take the lead roles, as Gianni Versace and Andrew Cunanan respectively, with Maureen Orth‘s book about the murderer, “Vulgar Favors,” serving as the source material. Should be pretty provocative stuff.
“The Assassination Of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story” is expected to arrive in 2018.
Penélope Cruz is too gorgeously feminine to portray a dickfaced tyranny like Donatella Versace!
