HBO presented the first official look at its anticipated new series “Westworld” at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, revealing a teaser trailer at CBS‘ “Person of Interest” panel (both series share a creator in Jonathan Nolan) and debuting a number of photographs depicting stars James Marsden, Evan Rachel Wood, and Thandie Newton in character as denizens of a simulated western world that is part of a high-tech theme park.
The series also stars Anthony Hopkins as Dr. Robert Ford, the creative director of Westworld, and Jeffrey Wright as Bernard Lowe, the head of the Westworld programming division and creator of “artificial people,” and is co-created by Nolan and Lisa Joy, with Nolan helming the pilot episode. The sci-fi thriller is based on the 1973 film of the same name directed and written by Michael Crichton, and centers around a technologically sophisticated amusement park that recreates long gone time periods for patrons to enjoy. An official description of the series was previously released, describing the show as "a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin.” In the series trailer (not online yet), an ominous voice says: “Bring her back online: have you ever questioned the nature of your reality?”

“Do you want to wake up from this dream, Dolores?” the voice continues to ask a distressed humanoid robot (Wood) held hostage in a pitch black room.
“Yes, I’m terrified,” Dolores answers, to which the voice replies: “There is no reason to be terrified as long as you answer my questions.” The remainder of the trailer segues into a dream-like montage of Dolores’ human life in “Westworld,” but then the images grow darker and more violent. Anthony Hopkins’ Dr. Ford is revealed at the very end as the likely cause behind all the horrifying visions that Delores experiences.
The late Jerry Weintraub also served as an executive producer for “Westworld,” and J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions is one of the main production companies. But you’ll still have to wait until TBD 2016 to see it. Check out the new photos below.
You\’re a hack, Zack.
Read it as "Waterworld" at first and was mildly intrigued. Realized my mistake and am now… slightly less so but otherwise still intrigued.
Westworld is terrible source material, but in Nolan bros. we trust.
