It was kind of laughable that Quentin Tarantino was on “American Idol,” as a mentor last night and from Vulture’s report it seemed wholly unnecessary, however, there was one happy bi-product of the show: more footage and an extended trailer from, his upcoming WWII film, “Inglourious Basterds.” The new sneak peek also gives us a first look at Mike Myers as the British character Gen. Ed Fenech.
But is this more Tarantino B-movie adoration or his next masterpiece? From the footage here, it’s too close to call. Brad Pitt still seems like he’s over-doing it and there’s still many shades of over-the-top camp all around. Judge for yourself though.
“Inglourious Basterds” is due in theaters on August 21, 2009 and is expected to play the Cannes Film Festival in May. [Film School Rejects]
It’s all sorts of campy, and I can’t help but think that Tarantino may actually be pulling some kind of high budget practical joke on everyone.
It is illegal to make an action movie trailer without the usual Wagnerian chorus on the soundtrack. Same as it is illegal to have closing credits other than white on black.
I agree that something just doesn’t click when Pitt delivers his lines. They just feel too self conscious, and I don’t know if the problem is with the lines themselves, or with the way Pitt is saying them. Still, I have his monolouge from the first trailer memorized and find myself quoting along when I watch it, so there must be something there.
Comical film in a very subtle way, maybe not everybody watching will appreciate this?
