“It’s a fun ride. It’s a very experimental thing that we’re doing here…I’m now addicted to doing things that can fail horribly or maybe that can give us a surprise. We are all into it,” Alejandro González Iñárritu tells EW about his currently-shooting "The Revenant" (one our 100 Most Anticipated Films Of 2015). And it seems like the director, who went out on a few limbs with his jazz-scored, "single-shot," Oscar nominee "Birdman," likes to dance on the high wire.
Co-starring Tom Hardy, Will Poulter, and Domnhall Gleeson, the story follows a 19th century fur trapper who is mauled by a grizzly bear, left for dead and robbed, who then goes on a mission of vengeance against the men who left him out in the cold. And reteaming with cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki, Iñárritu is shooting in the wilds of Alberta, Canada and adding an extra layer of complication by only using natural light — and in winter, that means there’s only a small window of daylight hours to work with.
And going by these first-look snaps, the production seems like a far cry from the brightly-lit boards of "Birdman." We can’t wait. "The Revenant" opens on Christmas Day.
Say this wouldn\’t happen to be a remake of "Man In The Wilderness", would it?
DiCaprio is a good choice! I always pictured him becoming the new "scruffy-Jeff Bridges".
All he\’s doing is ripping off Malick. He did the same with Days of Heaven. What a putz.
This movie is about Hugh Glass, one of the biggest badasses of the 19th century. They bether do his story justice!
and the 2015 Best Actor in Lead role goes to Leonardo DiCaprio for The Revenant
looks like a remake of "Man in the Wilderness" (1971) which starred Richard Harris and John Huston. Exact same story line and based on a supposed "true historic incident".
A variation on 1971\’s Man in the Wilderness?
I see now that both films are at least partially based on the same true story. Would make for an interesting comparison.
This is the exact same plot as Richard Sarafian\’s "Man in the Wilderness" (1971), although the two films have different source material. "Man" was pretty good, with Richard Harris as the man left behind after the bear attack, and John Huston as the leader of the fur-trading group that he chases down for revenge.
Three Oscars in a row for Lubezki.
to będzie świetny film . Czekam. Zdecydowanie czekam :)) Broda , Strzelba i Dicaprio ? 😀 To będzie świetne 😀
It looks hilarious.
A remake of Man in the Wilderness (Richard Harris, 1971)?
Can\’t wait for it!
Hope it\’ll be funny!
This movie is going to be extremely epic. Really wish that Leo would do a movie with Terry tho
It actually looks pretty awesome. Without a doubt, my most anticipated film this year.
