Got a Tip?

First Look: Kristen Wiig In Sebastian Silva’s ‘Nasty Baby’

Nasty BabyThe first still from Kristen Wiig‘s upcoming “Nasty Baby” just landed, and we’re hopeful that means there’s plenty more (including a trailer) on the horizon. Having entered post-production, though still without a release date or festival appearance announced, hopes are already high for the film, which is written and directed by Chilean filmmaker Sebastián Silva ("The Maid"), who also co-stars (that’s him in the photo next to Wiig). TV On The Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe joins as Silva’s boyfriend, and Wiig plays their best friend and surrogate in the couple’s quest to have a baby.

Here’s the full synopsis:

NASTY BABY centers around a Brooklyn couple, Freddy and his boyfriend Mo, who are trying to have a baby with the help of their best friend, Polly. Freddy is an artist, and his latest work is all about babies – it’s clear he’s dying to be a father. Polly is a family practitioner who is more interested in having a baby than having a man. Mo is hesitant about the entire idea, especially when Polly isn’t having success with Freddy’s sperm and the donor responsibility shifts to him. Set almost entirely in the multicultural vibrancy of Fort Greene, Brooklyn, the trio navigate the idea of creating life, when they are confronted by unexpected harassment from particularly aggressive neighborhood man, nicknamed The Bishop. The Bishop is bothersome in small, yet persistent ways, with a hint of danger. As their clashes become increasingly aggressive, someone is bound to get hurt.

Alia Shawkat, Mark Margolis, Reg E. Cathey and Agustín Silva co-star, and Paris-based production company Funny Balloons is backing, along with Chile’s Fabula. No word on a release date, but Silva’s last two pictures “Magic Magic” and “Crystal Fairy” both debuted at Sundance in 2013, so it’s a good bet the same with happen in Utah next year. 12/3 Update. More photos from Sundance have arrived.
