Cinematical has the first look at the poster for Judd Apatow’s forthcoming stand-up comedians with adult problems film, “Funny People” which stars Seth Rogen, Adam Sandler, Leslie Mann and supporting roles for Jason Schwartzman, Jonah Hill, and Eric Bana. It’s a little underwhelming, but it’s poster for a comedy, you can’t expect dazzling design.
The script for “Funny People,” is excellent and has a lot of mature and tearful notes that hopefully the Apatow-gang can hit (it’s probably the best he’s written thus far). A lot of it has the similar “emotionality” (if we can borrow a word from Kurt Lazarus), that “Knocked Up” has, but with a darker and potentially sadder tone if executed well. It’s not much to look at, but here it is.
The real news however, is that the film now has a real release date now, July 31, 2009.
As we’ve mentioned before, “Funny People’s” screenplay features an appearance by the real-life Bruce Springsteen in a dream sequence, references a Wilco concert and features music by Otis Redding, Paul McCartney, Warren Zevon and Ted Hawkins among others. We’ll see if the soundtrack supes clear them for the film. We don’t see why they couldn’t.
You guy should do a proposed soundtrack for “Funny People”, kind of like the Soundtrack Series but geared specifically for the film. I recommend “I Started A Joke” by Richie Havens.
Meh, i hate theme-playlists like that. Let some other hacks do it. I did start a Soundtrack Series for Judd, but it disappeared when i lost my Ipod. It was 2 discs at one point. It’s all in my head, i just need to find time to download it.
This film has a killer cast, probably the best we’ve seen yet from Apatow. Rogen and Hill have already proven their worth. Apatow’s beautiful wife Mann is always a plus. Jason Schwartzman’s addition to the Apatow gang should only help. I’m interested to see what Eric Bana will do with comedy, if indeed comedy is expected from him. And finally we get to the lead, Mr. Adam Sandler. First off, Bedtime Stories looks like pure shit. And i’ve truley hated some of his other characters, i.e. Waterboy, Little Nicky etc. But all my hope in him lies in what was his performance in Punch Drunk Love. I thought he should’ve gotten an acting nod for that, no shit! So if he can do something like that again, or at least keep it on the Spanglish level of reality, we should be in for a treat.
The only actor I think the film is missing is Paul Rudd. I love that guy.
