We do all recall the upcoming project “Butter” and its fairly all-star cast that includes Jennifer Garner (also a producer on the project), Hugh Jackman, Olivia Wilde, Alicia Silverstone, Rob Corddry, Ashley Greene, Ty Burrell and Yara Shahidi, yes?
It’s a comedy set in the American Midwest, where an adopted girl (Shahidi) discovers her talent for butter carving and finds herself pitted against an ambitious local woman (Garner) in their town’s annual contest. A Blacklist 2008 script favorite, the film was penned by Jason A. Micallef (“Cryptozoology,” an animated film being produced by Jack Black) and directed by Jim Field Smith (“She’s Out Of My League”).
Currently in post-production (according to IMDB), Entertainment Tonight has a first look of the footage from the set and interviews with Garner, Jackman, Wilde, Greene and Burrell. There’s no release date for it yet, but it’s safe to say this will be a 2011 film. It was once described as “‘Election’ swirled with “Best in Show” and from this clip, that seems to capture this subculture — butter carvers — pretty well. Hugh Jackson likens it to “Fargo,” “Little Miss Sunshine” and similarly sardonic films.
Garner isn't the adopted girl (that girl is around 10 years old) – she's the "ambitious local woman".
