First Look: Elle Fanning In ‘Mary Shelley’

The Berlin Film Festival kicks off today which means in addition to the dozens of films unspooling, the European Film Market is going strong as the next wave of new movies look to find homes. And part of getting the buzz going is in releasing the first images from new projects, and we’ll watch anything with the immensely talented Elle Fanning.

Mary Shelley” (formerly known as “A Storm In The Stars“) finds the actress playing “Frankenstein” writer Mary Shelley, in the movie that will track the author’s affair with the poet Percy Bysse Shelley. The talent involved in this movie is strong, with Douglas Booth, Bel Powley, Tom Sturridge, and Maisie Williams also starring, with “Wadjda director Haifaa al-Mansour directing. Promising stuff.

There’s no release date yet, but it’s safe to assume it’ll pop up on the festival circuit sometime this year. [THR]

  1. “Mary Shelley” (formerly known as “A Storm In The Stars“)

This commercial trend of changing evocative, figurative titles to bland, literal ones has the exact opposite of its intended effect on me; it makes the film sound way *less* interesting. it makes it sound pedestrian and boring. Does the market research say “metaphors are confusing”, even to independent film audiences?
