It’s a loooong way until we see Brie Larson kicking superhero ass in “Captain Marvel,” but the actress has a full slate in the year ahead. She stars in Ben Wheatley‘s wickedly fun shoot-em-up “Free Fire,” she’ll go blockbuster with “Kong: Skull Island,” and then will presumably be getting back in the awards season race following her Best Actress Oscar win for “Room” with “The Glass Castle.” And since it’s never too early to start campaigning, the first images for that film have arrived.

Based on the best-selling memoir by Jeannette Walls, the film chronicles the author’s eccentric upbringing raised by her dysfunctional parents and her travels across the southwest before settling in a small mining town in West Virginia.
“Short Term 12” director Destin Cretton is behind the camera, with Naomi Watts, Woody Harrelson and Max Greenfield in supporting roles.
No release date yet, but Lionsgate will bring “The Glass Castle” to cinemas in 2017. [EW]
