In case you forgot, in addition to Terrence Malick‘s highly anticipated, cinema breaking, cosmos exploring “The Tree of Life” set to this theaters this spring, the director has second film on the way and it looks like we won’t have wait a half decade to see it.
THR has dropped the first look at the currently untitled romantic drama — which may or may not be called “The Burial” — starring Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams, Rachel Weisz, Olga Kurylenko, Javier Bardem and Barry Pepper and well, that’s about as much as we can tell. Plot details are, as per usual, being kept under wraps and though some morsels sort of leaked last fall, we wouldn’t put too much stock in them resembling anything what the final film might look like.
No word yet on release dates or anything like that, but considering the normally meticulous Malick is dropping stills already, it can’t be too far away. Do we dare dream of two Terrence Malick films in 2011?
I highly doubt both of these movies will come out this year, but at the same time, this is only February. He does have another 9-10 months to finish it up, and with a normal film, after seeing the first publicity photos that would not be a pretty normal assumption. However, with Malick I\’m guessing it will come out early-to-mid 2012. Two films in two years would still be unprecedented from him.
And I will second Kim\’s point on The New World: one of the most overwhelmingly beautiful and poetic films ever made.
I am beyond excited to see two Terrence Malick films. He is without a doubt my favorite director and I had hoped he would make more films and now he has two coming out!
The New World is one of my favorite films! When I first saw the film, it came out when I was in high school I of course went alone to the movie theaters because no one wanted to see it and that was the best movie experience of my life. The film was so poetic, beautiful and it moved my spirit and not many films do that to me. 🙂
Rachel McAdams and Terrence Malick coming together, it\’s like a dream come true!
see 2 new Malick movies in the same year and die happy is my hope
Cannot wait ! His films are something really special .
Rachel McAdams, Javier Bardem and Barry Pepper all equally fantastic. SO happy to see Barry Pepper getting good roles lately.
Malick is one of my all-time faves, but I have to be cliche-for-2003-tastes and say Ben Affleck has a fantastic chance of ruining this movie. The dude has nothing of value to me, and this whole introverted artist look he\’s kept ever since Hollywoodland makes him that much more irritating.
Shit, I really liked him before Us Weekly and TMZ-core media sunk his blockbuster career and made him act like a recovering rape victim with something substantial to say as an artist. It feels like Justin Timberlake at the Social Network Q&As; all of a sudden wearing nerd glasses and trying to talk like David Fincher. ERRR. Next.
Two Malick films in one year would be too much like Christmas and your birthday coming too close together. At first the idea sounds great but it is over far too soon.
2 malick films in one year? i think the universe would collapse into itself.
That has kind of a Days Of Heaven feel to it:

I\’d like to think it could be out by year\’s end but Malick will probably need more time (years) to edit.
