First Look At Sean Penn Essentially Playing The Cure’s Robert Smith In ‘This Must Be Place’

In his next film, Sean Penn is set to play an aging rock star, but little did we know, he was essentially going to channeling Robert Smith of The Cure. Ok, so maybe it’s not official, but what else are we supposed to surmise based on the set photos that have leaked from “This Must Be Place”? Dressed head-to-toe in back with a wild mop of asymmetrical hair and red lipstick? We’d say the influence is fairly obvious.

The film which co-stars Frances McDormand and Eve Hewson centers on Penn’s character who becomes obsessed in tracking down the Nazi criminal who tortured his father. The film is directed by Paolo Sorrentino (“Il Divo”) who is making his English feature debut. McDormand plays Penn’s wife while Hewson will play a goth-punk who is friends with the rocker.
