First Look At Emmy Rossum In ‘Beautiful Creatures’

nullIn case you haven't been paying attention, the young adult book movie adaptation era is upon us. The 'Twilight' series has already proven there are buckets of money to be made, "The Hunger Games" is going to be duplicating that success in years to come, and in 2013, two more franchises will be hoping to cash in as well. Sony has "The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones" gearing up to go into production for release next August, but Warner Bros. has already wrapped on "Beautiful Creatures," which they hope will get their New Year off to the fresh start.

Based on the novel by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, the film will follow Ethan Wate (Alden Ehrenreich) and Lena Duchannes (Alice Englert), two teens in the deep south who are drawn together by a strange connection and supernatural secrets. As young adult fantasy novels tend to be about. EW has the first look at Emmy Rossum in the film who plays Ridley, a manipulative cousin sent by Lena's mother (played by Emma Thompson) to make sure her daughter who is turning sixteen — and must determine whether to become good or evil sorceress — doesn't opt for the former.

"She and Lena were almost sisters before she was claimed by the Dark," director Richard LaGravenese explains, ''so she wants Lena to be claimed so they can be together again."

We have to admit, having not read the books we're kind of totally lost here, but we're sure once the trailers and promo material start arriving it will start making much more sense. "Beautiful Creatures" opens on Febraury 13, 2013.null

  1. I read the book a couple weeks after the first novel was released and I've been collecting them and loving the series ever since! I'm hoping the movie will do Margaret and Kami justice on their skills 🙂
