Got a Tip?

First Look At Cast Of ‘Snow White And The Huntsman’ Promises Dark Take On The Classic Fairy Tale

Yes, two Snow White movies are on the way in 2012 with Relativity getting out of the gate first with Tarsem Singh‘s (still) untitled and currently filming project and Universal following with “Snow White and the Huntsman.” And while the source material may be the same, it looks like we’re in for two very different films. We got our first look at Lily Collins in the former film just a few days ago and it was a spectacularly colorful, yet still prim, proper and pretty look at our titular hero. But it seems ‘Huntsman’ will be quite the opposite.

Universal Pictures has dropped pics of the principal cast of the forthcoming Rupert Sanders-directed film and it’s definitely impressive. Starring Chris Hemsworth, Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron, Sam Clafin, Lily Cole and Sam Spruell, the film is a retelling of the classic fairy tale in which the woodsman (Hemsworth), who is meant to bump off the titular princess (Stewart), winds up training her instead to fight her evil stepmother (Theron). Theron looks absolutely great and sexy as the dagger-wielding stepmom, while Hemsworth is appropriate beefy as our hero, with tough-as-nails Stewart ready to rock in some armour. Hell, even the princely Clafin looks ready to kick some ass. The cast is rounded out by the dwarves played by Ian McShane, Toby Jones, Bob Hoskins, Eddie Marsan, Stephen Graham, Ray Winstone and Nick Frost, but no peeks at them just yet.

All in all, the Snow White battle isn’t over but moreover, it looks like we’re getting two wildly different pics which is fine by us. “Snow White and the Huntsman” will start shooting this fall and is slated for a June 1, 2012 release. Check out more pics of the cast below.

  1. Signing on for this kind of completely demolishes any indie cred Stewart had built up. Another big budget franchise right after Twilight? Pattinson has more indie cred than she does at this point. Remember Me made a profit, WFE made a profit with a modest budget and then he\’s done Bel Ami and Cosmopolis. Looks like he\’s going to be coming out of Twilight with a better track record than hers. She\’s such a poser.

  2. What a bad choice.
    1. Is charleze supposed to be jealous of the person in the chain mail.
    2. What in the world are they doing with the White Tree of Gondor.
    What a rip off.

  3. Oh I\’m surprised at how much I like it, dare I say I\’m excited even…

I can\’t hate on anything that gives Snow White a spine.

I\’m all for a genuinely kick-ass Snow White.

  4. Stewart looks like Joan of Arc. And I can\’t take Roth\’s LotR comparisons seriously when this is such a rush project. I\’m just not sure who the audience for this is going to be.

  5. how the evil queen can be jealous of snow white beauty? sorry but i can\’t understand why they choose stewart, bad casting. in Tarsem i trust more especially with armie hammer.

  6. Is it just me or does Sam Claflin look like James Franco in Your Highness? This whole thing looks like a big budget flop to me.

I want to see believable, multifaceted acting but whenever I watch Kristen Stewart, I end up seeing shivers, shudders, gasps, stutters, blinking, lip biting, head shaking and hair grabbing. If she brings all her tics and mannerisms to this part, as she has with every other film she\’s made, it will be another flop like her last 3 indies.

  7. The photo makes KStew look more like Lancelot than SW. The tree on the shield looks like the white queen chess piece from the cover of Breaking Dawn. And if this turns into a triangle between Snow, the huntsman and the prince, then it\’s just a rip off of Twilight. Joe Roth even admitted that KStew was only known for one role. He\’s not the most tactful guy, is he? KStew is also known for putting her foot in her mouth and having to apologize for it later, so this production should make for some zingers.

  8. it does kinda look like the lotr tree doesn\’t it? i think its supposed to be an apple tree though. are they even going to do the apple scene in this movie? if this snow white it supposed to be \”bad-ass\” i don\’t see that happening. she\’ll probably just bring herself back to life.

  9. The Stewart hate is so dumb, did no one else watch Adventureland? If you were in the Twilight movies, do you really think you would go all out trying to deliver a great performance? Or would you just take the money and joke around on set trying to pretend your soul isn\’t bleeding all over the place?

  10. I was looking forward to this with the impressive dwarf casting, but these pics make it look like a stupid \”Wizard of Oz\” reimagining I made up when I was 13.

  11. It\’s not surprising at all that almost all of the commenters on this site only judge KStew on the \”Twilight\” movies (where she has admitted she\’s only phoning it in) and conveniently and probably purposefully forgetting before them she was known to be a talented actress who was in a lot of good indie movies.

  12. Stewart was cast to bring in $$$ (ie all the young Twilight fans who will be looking for the next series to get behind) not because she is right for the part, which she really isn\’t, even if they\’ve dressed her up like a knight of the round table. Charlize Theron looks perfect though. Way better in the role than I expect Julia Roberts to be.
