Benicio Del Toro, oh where have you been? After his impressive performance in Steven Soderbergh's "Che," Del Toro appeared in the botched monster movie revival "The Wolfman" and has kind of disappeared for a while. He popped in a brief cameo in Sofia Coppola's "Somewhere," directed a segment of the forthcoming omnibus "7 Days In Havana" and this year he's set to return in what looks like a helluva role in Oliver Stone's "Savages."
Universal Pictures Argentina have tweeted the first image from the film, and it looks like Del Toro is gonna be one serious badass. In the film, based on the best-selling crime novel by Don Winslow, Blake Lively plays the gal pal of two Laguna Beach drug dealers (Aaron Johnson and Taylor Kitsch) who is kidnapped by Mexican drug cartel who wants to move in on their turf. Del Toro plays the cartel enforcer with Uma Thurman as Lively's Mom, Salma Hayek as the leader of the cartel, John Travolta as a burnt-out DEA agent, the recently Oscar nominated Demian Bichir as a double-crossing attorney who represents Hayek’s cartel, Joel David Moore as a computer nerd and Emile Hirsch in an unnamed role. So yeah, this sounds fucking awesome.
The first image is a great tease and we can't wait to see more. "Savages" opens on September 28th.
Benicio del toro is no holywood actor he is pure trash who has ended up having a baby with one of the biggest slut in LA kimberly Sewart…how can you take him seriously as a oscar winner his has no class!! he makes me want to throw up
Other than Blake Lively, I'm stoked for this film. I hope she doesn't crush its soul like she did with The Town.
I love the cast, just based on that and Oliver Stone I think this is going to be fantastic.
GREAT BOOK LIKE ALL OF MR WINSLOWS NOVELS
LOVE T KITSCH
CANT WAIT FOR RILM
I use to think Blake Lively was overrated until I saw her performance in "The Town". I thought it had some good meat to it. If it wasn't a fluke, I think she'll get better with her acting as time goes on.
Please tell me that his character is Mexican? please? I actually do like him as an actor, and even though people rave about traffic his accent and portrayal was terrible in that film, terrible, go and ask people all over Mexico.
Hey now….Wolfman had a few decent scenes, especially considering what it was (i.e. a monster movie).
Can we not start with the whole Blake Lively debate/bashing here again. Yes, a large contingent of you don't think she can act, we get it.
This movie however looks kick ass.
Except, concerned that Blake Lively has such a big role in this film… Think her film performances so far have been really overracted and forced.
"Joel David Moore as a computer nerd". Really branching out there, Joel.
