Got a Tip?

First Image From Steven Soderbergh’s ‘Haywire’ Shows MMA Fighter Gina Carano…Firing A Gun

It’s been a bit of long and bumpy ride for Steven Soderbergh‘s lean, mean action pic “Haywire.” First the movie went from Lionsgate to Relativity, and it was set up with an April 22nd release date. As the snow started melting, the movie was moved to late summer as fine tuning continued on the picture but then it was moved once more — and finally — to January 20, 2012. That might seem odd, but you have remember that “Contagionjust moved up a full month to a September 9th release and we’d wager that Soderbergh — as well as Warner Bros. and Relativity — wanted to make sure that there was breathing room between both pics (and the ever busy Soderbergh is also shooting another new movie this fall, “Magic Mike” to complicate things further).

Anyway, all that said, after various set pics and unofficial concept art, we finally have our first official look at the film and it’s MMA fighter Gina Carano not kicking ass as we’ve seen her do, but instead, firing a gun. It’s a bit curious to with Carano shooting instead of immobilizing some baddie as the first taste, but hey, whatever works, and honestly, it still looks pretty badass. Channing Tatum, Ewan McGregor, Michael Fassbender, Antonio Banderas, Bill Paxton, Michael Douglas and Michael Angarano round out the great cast in the film that will find Carano playing a covert ops specialist who discovers she’s been double-crossed and takes revenge on her own company. The film was written by Lem Dobbs (”The Limey“) and David Holmes (the ‘Oceans’ Trilogy, “Out of Sight”) wrote the score.

You already know we’re looking forward to this, so click below to check out the full pic. And oh yeah, Soderbergh will be at Comic-Con in a few weeks which should be…interesting. Any suggestions on what his cosplay outfit should be? [Collider]

  1. Fair enough. And I havent seen Carano act, who knows she could be good. All I know is The Girlfriend Experience was PAINFUL to watch, and the way Gina is holding the uzi in the top photo doesn\’t inspire much confidence. Hell of a supporting cast though. http://bit.ly/oHUf1z

  2. She kicks plenty of ass in the movie. In fact, the fight scenes are the best scenes in the movie. I don\’t even remember her firing a gun. Unfortunately, besides that, this movie was very weak and boring in my opinion.
