“V/H/S” may have failed to make any great waves at the box office, but at various festivals and within the horror community, the found-footage anthology carved out a sizable audience who were taken with what they saw. With segments directed by Joe Swanberg and Ti West among others, the movie was said to breathe new life into the found-footage genre, and a sequel was duly set in motion.
Upping the directorial ante, segments will this time be helmed by Gareth Evans (“The Raid”) alongside Timo Tjahjanto (“Macabre”), Eduardo Sanchez (co-director of “The Blair Witch Project”) alongside producer Greg Gale, the returning Adam Wingard, debutant Simon Barret, and “Hobo With a Shotgun” director Jason Eisner. Up until now the film was going by the working title of “V/H/S 2,” but very cleverly indeed it's been upgraded to “S-VHS”.
We absolutely love that new title – for anyone who doesn’t remember, S-VHS/Super VHS was the format introduced that improved upon VHS for home recording on videocassettes – and hopefully it’s a reflection on this sequel improving on the original. The new title was confirmed over at Twitch, who also have a gloriously creepy first still from the movie. It’s from the Evans/Tjahjanto segment, and shows a man who looks way too happy about being covered in blood with a symbol carved into his torso.
