Secrecy in the film industry has reached unprecedented levels in recent years. With social media taking over and the 24-hour news day, studios have had to go to extreme lengths to keep things secret. And that even goes for casting a film as well, as actor Finn Wolfhard revealed in a new interview about the upcoming “Ghostbusters” reboot-quel.

Speaking to MTV News, the “Stranger Things” actor was asked what it was like to audition for such a big franchise. However, what Wolfhard revealed is that he actually had no clue what he was auditioning for.
The young actor explained, “Hell no. No, it’s all secret. I didn’t even know what I was auditioning for when I auditioned for it. [They gave me] just generic sides of a guy. And I was like, ‘Okay.’”
When the interviewer joked about Wolfhard reading a generic scene featuring ghosts, the actor quickly added, “Nothing. There were no giveaways.”
We’ve heard reports of studios doing this before, including folks like Marvel Studios (who don’t even give their actors entire scripts, according to leak-prone Tom Holland). But the secrecy surrounding the new “Ghostbusters” even eclipsed that, with no one realizing that the film was even in pre-production until filmmaker Jason Reitman and the studio sprung it on fans, complete with a simple teaser video.
Now, just weeks after the initial reveal, we have a cast (including Wolfhard, Carrie Coon, and Mckenna Grace), we know that production is about to begin, and the film has a release window of summer 2020.
